Earlier this year, South Korean multinational electronics corporation Samsung released a brand new product — a smart home control device, SmartThings Station. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) held its annual CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas in 2023, where the news was first made public.

To begin, I’d like to point out that Samsung’s connected home experience is the first mass-market smart-home energy management system to receive the Energy Star certification because of its emphasis on reducing energy use.

What exactly is the Samsung SmartThings Station?

SmartThings Station binds your different smart devices and brands together. Let’s say you’ve invested in a number of Samsung home smart appliances, including a washing machine, refrigerator, TV, light bulbs, air conditioner, and window coverings. Samsung SmartThings Station centralises all of your compatible devices in one app, and it helps you control them from your phone even when you are not at home.

Moreover, the Station itself serves as a controller, allowing you to activate a scene with a single, double, or extended push. For instance, as you leave the house, it might switch off the lights and other electronics (and then power them back on when you get home). It has the ability to put your phone on silent and your TV on “Game” mode. While getting ready for bed, it can also shut the curtains and turn down the heat.

“Having a smarter home shouldn’t be complicated or expensive. So we wanted to create SmartThings Station as a simple, reliable and expandable smart home hub,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings, Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics. “The number of devices in a connected home continues to grow, especially in light of the recent Matter standard launch. We’re proud to play a role in making it easier to embrace this exciting technology.”

It is the most convenient SmartThings Hub yet. This Samsung SmartThings Station also comes with a wireless charging pad.

Additionally, with the Samsung SmartThings Station, you can create a bespoke evening routine that does things like turning off lights and TVs and resetting the thermostat. It is also compatible with voice assistants like the Amazon Echo and Google Home.

The Samsung SmartThings Station provides a glimpse into the future of technology, where the convenience and smarts of your home can be activated at the push of a button. It is the first product to have mattered support built in amongst all Samsung products.

Samsung plans to collaborate closely with its partner brands to build a more integrated environment. Products like the Google Nest Hub, the Amazon Video ring doorbell, and the Phillips Hue Lights will all work together to improve the efficiency of your digital home.

The security level of the Samsung SmartThings Station

Built on Samsung’s defense-grade security architecture, the new Knox Matrix transforms your smart home into a smart shield that keeps your Samsung devices safe and secure. As soon as you establish a connection to Knox Matrix, you will immediately be able to take advantage of two really useful capabilities, namely credential sync and Trust Chain.

Credential sync is a feature that will assist in the protection of your data by shifting it from one device to another. Trust Chain enables connected devices to check up on each other and see if there are any potential security risks.

This is managed through a private blockchain, ensuring that all of your reliable gadgets will cooperate to keep each other safe.

So, What do you do with all of these powers? Well, anything you want to.
