Apple is rumored to be working on a foldable phone that could rival Samsung’s Galaxy Z series.
The device, dubbed the iPhone Flip, could offer a unique design and features that would appeal to Apple fans and new customers alike.
Design and Display
According to Jon Prosser, Apple has tested two different kinds of iPhone Flip: a fold-out book-style hybrid tablet, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold lineup, and a clamshell flip phone design akin to the Galaxy Z Flip range. However, it seems that Apple is leaning towards the latter option, as it would be more compact and convenient.
Apple’s “foldable” iPhone isn’t really a foldable. 🧐
The current prototype has two separate display panels on a hinge.

A concept video by ConceptsiPhone shows how an iPhone Flip could look in a clamshell form factor. It features a smaller notch than the iPhone 14 (although no Dynamic Island like the iPhone 14 Pro), a 120Hz display, and an in-screen Touch ID sensor.
Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the first foldable iPhone will have a huge display measuring 8 inches. That would be larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which offers a 7.6-inch display when unfolded.
However, it is unclear how Apple would fit such a large screen intoa clamshell design.
Performance and Battery
The iPhone Flip is expected to run on the iOS v16 operating system and be powered by the Apple A15 Bionic (5nm) chipset.
It could have 6 GB RAM and up to 512 GB internal storage. The battery capacity could be around 3520mAh, which should provide a decent backup for moderate usage.
Camera and Other Features
The camera setup of the iPhone Flip is still unknown, but it could include some of the features that are present in other iPhones, such as optical image stabilization, night mode, portrait mode, and HDR. It could also have a Face ID for secure unlocking and authentication.
The iPhone Flip could also support wireless charging and fast charging technologies. It could have stereo speakers for immersive sound quality and water resistance for durability.
Price and Release Date
The price of the iPhone Flip is also unknown at this point, but it could be higher than other iPhones due to its foldable design and premium features. It could cost around $1,500 or more depending on the storage variant.
The release date of the iPhone Flip is also uncertain, but some sources suggest that it could launch in late 2023 or early 2024.
However, some other sources claim that it could launch as soon as September 30th this year.
Will Apple be able to pull this off?
The Apple iPhone Flip is an exciting prospect for those who want to experience a foldable phone with the iOS experience. It could offer a unique design and display along with powerful performance and battery life.
However, it could also come with a hefty price tag and face competition from other foldable phones in the market.
