Samsung’s Galaxy S-series and foldable lineup might get all the attention, but the company’s mid-range Galaxy A-series is just as important. The Galaxy A53 was a top pick among mid-range smartphones last year. Now, Samsung is launching its successor, the Galaxy A54. The phone is set to launch on January 18th. Here’s what we know so far about Samsung’s upcoming mid-range phone.
Samsung’s Galaxy A54: A closer look at the design and specifications
The Samsung Galaxy A53 carried on the same design language as the A52 from 2021. However, for the Galaxy A54, Samsung could make changes to its design and take inspiration from the upcoming flagship Galaxy S23 lineup.
Leaked renders show that the Galaxy A54 looks similar to its predecessor from the front. The phone features a flat display with a noticeable chin and should have an IP67 rating like the Galaxy A53, making it dust and water-resistant. The most notable change is to the rear camera array, which could have three individual camera sensors that protrude from the body, rather than the large module used on the Galaxy A53. This design is similar to last year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra and leaks of the upcoming S23 series.
From a design perspective, the Galaxy A54 could stand out with new color options, such as purple and watery neon shades, in addition to the typical black and white colors.
The Galaxy A54 is expected to have a 6.6-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and come with options for 6 or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. It’s expected to be powered by a 5,000mAh battery, which should provide enough power for two days of use.
Rumors suggest that the phone will have charging speeds of up to 25W, but it may not include a charger in the box and is unlikely to have wireless charging support.
The phone is expected to run on Android 13-based One UI 5.0, and receive software updates for four years and security patches for five years after its launch.

It is speculated that Samsung will equip the Galaxy A54 with its in-house Exynos 1380 chip. This mid-range SoC has been certified with Bluetooth 5.3, but there is no further information about it yet. Though it is expected that it will bring some performance improvements.
With no Galaxy A74 in the pipeline, the Galaxy A54 will likely be Samsung’s top mid-range device for 2023.
Samsung Galaxy A54: Improved Optics!
The Galaxy A54’s camera setup could see a significant change from the A53. Samsung may replace the A53’s 64MP primary shooter with a 50MP sensor on the A54. Despite the lower resolution, the new 50MP sensor could provide noticeable improvements in low-light and dynamic range. The 12MP ultra-wide and the 5MP macro cameras may remain unchanged.
The Exynos 1380’s ISP could bring processing improvements, allowing the Galaxy A54 to capture better photos than its predecessors. On the front, the Galaxy A54 may feature a 32MP selfie shooter that is capable of shooting 4K videos.
Samsung Galaxy A54: Price and Availability
Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy A54 on January 18th, 2023 in India. The phone is expected to be available in Europe and the US soon after.
There is currently no information on the device’s pricing, but given the specs and the fact that it’s a modest upgrade over the A53, it’s likely to carry a similar $450 (Rs.36,000) price tag as its predecessor in the US.
The mid-ranger to look out for in 2023?
The Galaxy A54 is expected to bring a lot of features that are usually found on flagship phones, but at a more affordable price. The device will be powered by a powerful processor, making it perfect for most tasks. With a long-lasting battery, it will be able to keep up with you throughout the day.
And with Samsung promising five years of support, it’s an excellent option for those looking for a budget-friendly device without sacrificing quality.
