Your smartphone’s smooth operation depends on its onboard RAM, enabling seamless multitasking and background task management. While 16GB RAM may seem sufficient, OnePlus is set to redefine expectations. Recent leaks suggest that upcoming OnePlus devices could boast more RAM than your PC. Discover the details below.

Do you really need 24 GIGABYTES of RAM?

Prominent tipster, a digital chat station, recently revealed on Weibo that the upcoming high-end OnePlus smartphone will come equipped with a remarkable 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM. This trend is not limited to OnePlus alone, as other brands under the BBK Electronics umbrella like Oppo, Realme, and iQOO are expected to follow suit. According to the tipster, this standardization of 24GB RAM on smartphones implies that the base variant will feature 16GB of RAM by default.

With this revelation, we can anticipate the OnePlus 12, set to launch later this year, to be the first device sporting 24GB of RAM. Alongside a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz OLED 2K Samsung curved display, the OnePlus 12 may boast the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. A sizable 5,000mAh battery with 150W SUPERVOOC fast charging support is also anticipated. Additionally, the device will retain the Hasselblad branding, offering a remarkable 50MP Sony IMX9 primary camera, accompanied by a 50MP wide-angle lens and a 64MP periscopic telephoto lens.

The highly anticipated OnePlus Ace 2 Pro might become the pioneering device to feature such a substantial RAM capacity, but it remains uncertain at this point. Eventually, we can expect other Chinese manufacturers to follow suit. While this may appear to be a significant performance enhancer, particularly for gaming, the necessity of such high RAM remains a question.

As there is no official confirmation from OnePlus, Oppo, or Realme, it is advisable to consider this information as a leak and await further official announcements. In the meantime, we’d love to hear your opinion on whether 24GB RAM on a smartphone is excessive. Is it a genuine requirement or merely a marketing tactic?
